We are pleased to announce that CHAI has become a program within the Maryland non-profit organization, the Pro Bono Counseling ProjectCHAI was formed 15 years ago with a mission to reach out to South Asians throughout Maryland to educate and inform them of the benefits of mental health care and to dispel the stigma associated with it.  This mission will now be continued as one of Pro Bono Counseling Project’s programs.  Since 1991, the Pro Bono Counseling Project has assured that uninsured or under-insured, low-income families and individuals in need of mental health care are linked with licensed mental health professionals who provide care on a volunteer basis at no cost.
The Pro Bono Counseling Project and CHAI have always worked closely together, providing access to free mental health care for South Asian families, couples and individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford a private therapist.  Referrals to additional mental health-related services in Maryland will also be provided.
We encourage South Asian members of the clinical community to join with Pro Bono Counseling Project as we plan a workshop to introduce the program and further enhance the partnership in the future.
